Jayce took her to the infirmary in a hurry with a worried expression. Jayce gave the details about her dehydration issues to the school doctor and he injected her with an IV. Jayce stayed beside her for the entire time.

It took her a while before her eyes fluttered and she tried to open her eyes slowly. With much difficulty, she managed to open her eyes but the bright light made her close them, instantly.  As she slowly opened them again, she saw him leaning against the wall as he sat on the stool. She observed his closed eyes, his dark brown hair with natural blond highlights and his perfectly straight nose.

“You should have taken the water bottle when I offered it to you,” He said in a matter of fact way to point out her mistake as he felt her gaze. That tone was familiar to her, it reminded her of being home in the warmth of love and affection. “I thought you would be a little rational after all this time but guess you became extra stubborn.”

“You’re the last person who gets to lecture me like this,” Her voice came out a little hoarse. Mavi turned her head around to show him that she didn’t care about him but he knew her well enough. He knew that she was hiding her tears from him that brought a smile to his face.

‘It feels good to know that you still care.’ Jayce thought before speaking again.

“Do you know how hard it was to stop the doctor from calling home? It would have been chaos if the fact about you fainting would have gotten home.” Jayce reminded her about her father, Killian, who was actually one of the directors of the school. But she always tried to hide her relationship from others.

She knew people would start looking at her differently, the moment she told anyone about her father or her family. She always wanted to have the real friends that liked her for who she was. And accepted her with all her flaws.

Mavi bit her lower lip and said, “Thanks.” Jayce felt the familiar affection in her voice but it changed the moment she opened her mouth again. “But that doesn’t give you the right to lecture. It’s not like you’ve set a great example for me to follow.”

Jayce felt the stung of the truthness in her words but he didn’t agree to it. He knew the moment he agreed, he’ll be at more loss than he already was. Jayce got up from the place he was sitting and walked towards the door. As he was about to walk out of the room, he said, “I’m Sorry, Zuri.” He didn’t look back at her. All Mavi saw was his back which is why she missed the sadness of his eyes. “But the truth is, I missed you a lot.” Jayce walked out with those parting words.

Mavi hugged her knees to her chest and buried her face. All this while a tall figure of 6’2” ft stood outside the door and heard the whole conversation. His intention was not to eavesdrop but the exchange of words between them made him halt in his tracks. His gray eyes turned cold as ice and he clenched his fists as he stood there having a staring competition with the ground.

That day, when Xoan tried to concentrate on his study, his mind would wander off to the school ground. He vividly remembered the way Jayce held Mavi and the affection in his words. For some unknown reason, his heart felt uneasy. The more he thought about it, the worse it got.

Next day,
